Druze religious leadership appeals to global powers to “save Suwayda”
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The spiritual leadership of the Druze community in Syria issued on Wednesday an urgent appeal, calling on global powers and influential leaders—among them U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and several Arab heads of state—to intervene and “save Suwayda.”
Violent clashes between local Sunni Bedouin tribes and Syrian government forces on one side, and Druze armed factions on the other, entered their fourth consecutive day in the southern Syrian city of Suwayda, with reports of heavy weapons and rocket fire being used in residential neighborhoods.
“We appeal to the free world and all influential powers,” the Druze spiritual authority said in a statement posted on its official Facebook. “We direct our call to His Excellency President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, King Abdullah II, and all who have a voice and influence in this world… Save Suwayda.”
The statement described the situation as a massacre, adding that the people of Suwayda are being exterminated—killed in cold blood and that the killers do not distinguish between young or old, woman or child, doctor or cleric.
“Churches and houses of worship are being destroyed,” the statement read. “These are massacres being carried out in plain sight of the world, yet the silence remains deadly.”
The leadership called on the international community to fulfill its moral and humanitarian responsibilities and act immediately to stop what it described as “systematic and organized attacks.”
