Turkey-backed militants kill young man in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Local sources reported to North Press on Thursday that Turkish-backed armed militants killed a young man in the Kurdish region of Afrin in northwestern Syria while guarding his family’s solar panels.

According to the sources, Mustafa Jamil Sheikho, a resident of the village of Haj Hasna in the Jindires subdistrict, was shot dead by members of Turkish-backed factions as he attempted to protect the solar panels from theft.

The incident has triggered widespread public anger among local residents, who are calling for an end to the repeated violations targeting the people of Afrin.

Despite the collapse of the Assad regime in the area and the formal control of security centers by the General Security forces under the Syrian Transitional Government, Turkish military bases remain active in Afrin.

Additionally, many armed factions—originally slated for integration into the Syrian Ministry of Defense—have yet to withdraw and continue to be accused of ongoing abuses against the region’s indigenous population.
