Landmine blasts kill, injure 4 people in Syrian Desert
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and three others were injured on Monday in two separate landmine explosions in the countryside of Homs and Deir ez-Zor, in central and eastern Syria.
A local source from Deir ez-Zor told North Press that a landmine exploded near the desert area of al-Masrab in the west of Deir ez-Zor, striking a motorcycle and killing 25-year-old Mohammad al-Shallal. His cousin, who was with him, was injured in the blast.
The source said both men worked in collecting scrap metal and copper and were en route to a waste disposal site on the outskirts of the town when the explosion occurred.
In a separate incident, another landmine — a remnant of previous conflicts — exploded in the al-Sukhna area of eastern Homs, hitting a civilian vehicle.
The explosion left two brothers, Abdullah and Adnan, critically injured and they were transferred to hospitals in Homs for treatment, the source added.
