Dozens of families leave al-Arisha camp to Deir ez-Zor
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of internally displaced families departed on Wednesday al-Arisha camp in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah countryside returning to their hometowns and villages in Deir ez-Zor and its surrounding countryside in eastern Syria.
The movement comes as part of a voluntary return initiative organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in coordination with camp administration.
Speaking to North Press, Salwa Juju, co-chair of the al-Arisha camp administration, confirmed that the latest group included 62 families, comprising 311 individuals originally from Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
“This marks the ninth return journey organized by UNHCR since the start of the repatriation program,” Juju said. “With this group, the total number of return convoys from al-Arisha camp has reached 11.”
Last week, another 46 families, totaling 193 individuals, also left the camp as part of the same initiative.
