Syrian transitional government delegation visits Hawl Camp in NE Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the Syrian transitional government visited Hawl Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, to discuss the conditions of Syrian residents, an official at the camp said on Saturday.
Jihan Hanan, co-chair of the camp administration, told North Press the delegation included representatives from the ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, the intelligence services, as well as officials responsible for counterterrorism efforts within the Syrian transitional government, accompanied by representatives of the U.S.-led Global Coalition.
Hanan added that the delegation held a meeting with representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the camp’s administration.
Discussions focused primarily on the potential return of Syrian residents in the camp to their home areas and original villages.
She noted that this was the first meeting of its kind and that further meetings are expected to follow to address additional issues related to the camp’s population and administration.
At the end of January, the AANES announced that Syrian refugees residing in Hawl Camp would be allowed to voluntarily return to their areas of origin.
