ISIS cells attack oil investor’s home in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Cells affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Saturday an attack on the home of an oil well investor in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria—marking the second such incident within a week.
A local source told North Press that ISIS militants targeted the residence of Rekan al-Muhammad, an oil investor in the town of al-Hawaij, using rockets and machine guns.
According to the source, both attacks resulted in material damage only, with no casualties reported.
The source added that the attacks were motivated by al-Muhammad’s refusal to pay “zakat”—an Islamic tithe—demanded by the organization. He had reportedly received multiple threats via WhatsApp from ISIS prior to the incidents.
