Jordan foils drug smuggling attempt from Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Sunday that it had thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan.
Jordan’s Al-Mamlaka channel quoted an official military source as saying: “Border guard forces, in coordination with military intelligence and the Anti-Narcotics Department, monitored a group of smugglers attempting to cross the border illegally from Syria into Jordanian territory.”
The source added that after applying the rules of engagement, the smugglers fled back into Syrian territory.
According to the report, large quantities of narcotics were seized at the scene.
This marks the second such incident in a week, as the Jordanian army previously reported foiling a similar drug smuggling attempt along the Syrian border.
