Continued clashes in Damascus suburbs kill 2, injure others

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – At least two people were killed and several others injured on Wednesday during ongoing armed clashes in Ashrafiyat Sahnaya town, south of Damascus, Syria.

The violence marks the continuation of a broader wave of unrest that began early on Tuesday in the nearby city of Jaramana, a Majority-Druze area, and has since spread to the Sahnaya and Ashrafiyat Sahnaya towns.

According to official Syrian media, the confrontations involve what were described as “outlawed armed groups.”

Local sources told North Press that the fighting in Ashrafiyat Sahnaya has been particularly intense around the Arab Bank area, with clashes continuing for over 10 hours.

All entrances to the town have reportedly been sealed off, further isolating the area and contributing to what sources described as a worsening humanitarian crisis.

Civilians have reportedly been caught in the crossfire, with wounded individuals unable to receive medical attention due to ambulances being blocked from entering the area.

Armed factions have taken control of key access roads, according to the same sources.

Heavy weapons, including machine guns and RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades), have been used in the clashes, raising fears of further escalation in this volatile Damascus suburb.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the situation as of the time of reporting.
