SDC reaffirms commitment to community initiatives, peace in Syria
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – An official from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) said on Monday that they are actively working on community initiatives to promote peace in Syria and to reject hatred and violence.
Mahmoud al-Maslat, co-chair of the SDC, told North Press that the Council continues to launch initiatives aimed at fostering civil peace and encouraging dialogue among the diverse components of Syrian society.
Speaking on the sidelines of a dialogue seminar titled “Towards Promoting Community Dialogue,” al-Maslat said the SDC is leading peace efforts in coordination with regional tribes and community leaders, while also opening channels of communication with Syrian expatriates.
He emphasized that the SDC had been the first to initiate negotiations with the transitional government in an effort to end the conflict.
Al-Maslat also highlighted the critical role played by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in defeating the Islamic State (ISIS).
“We have already brought peace and were the ones who defeated ISIS in this region, sacrificing martyrs. But we speak now as Syrians, in the language of Syria, to achieve peace in our regions,” he added.
