Kurdish Unity Conference kicks off in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Kurdish Unity Conference in Syria began on Saturday, with the participation of more than 400 political figures representing Kurdish parties in Syria, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), and Turkey, in addition to religious and independent political figures.
The U.S. Department of State welcomed the convening of the Kurdish Conference in Syria in a statement to North Press.
The conference began its work with an opening speech by Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), followed by Hamid Darbandi, Hamid Darbandi, public relations official in the Presidency of KRI, reading a message from Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani.
The opening included a speech by a representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), a speech by a representative of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti), and a speech by the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK).
The council of the Kurdish conference consists of Muhammad Ismail, head of the Kurdish National Council, Ilham Ahmad, head of Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and North East Syria (AANES), and Parwin Youssef, co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD).
