HOMS, Syria (North Press) – A war remnant explosion killed on Tuesday a child and seriously injured another in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria.
A local source told North Press that the two children were herding sheep near the village of Hawarin in the eastern Homs countryside when a projectile detonated, killing one instantly and leaving the other with serious injuries.
The injured child was transported to a hospital in the nearby town of al-Qaryatayn for treatment.
The source noted that large parts of the Homs countryside—particularly in the east—remain littered with landmines and unexploded ordnance, posing an ongoing threat to residents, especially children.
Human rights and humanitarian organizations continue to urge increased mine clearance efforts and public awareness campaigns in affected areas to prevent further casualties, according to rights groups and media reports.
