New batch of 681 Iraqis depart Syria’s Hawl Camp for Iraq
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A total of 681 people, comprising 168 Iraqi families, departed on Saturday the Hawl Camp in northeastern Syria heading toward Iraq following coordination between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Iraqi government.
This marks the seventh repatriation operation since the beginning of 2025 and the 24th overall since the start of formal coordination efforts to return Iraqi nationals from the camp.
An official source in Hawl Camp told North Press, “This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration between the AANES and the Iraqi government to facilitate the return of all Iraqi citizens to their homeland.”
He further noted that the 681 individuals left the camp early Saturday morning in coordination with the AANES.
On March 12, a similar operation saw 161 Iraqi families—a total of 600 people—relocated from Hawl to al-Jada’a camp in Mosul’s countryside, Iraq.
