Iraqi child dies of cyanide poisoning in Hawl Camp in NE Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – An Iraqi child died on Wednesday in Hawl Camp in northeastern Syria after suffering severe poisoning from ingesting cyanide, a substance used by camp residents to treat lice infestations.

A security source in the camp told North Press that several children mixed cyanide with drinking water in a small bottle and forced the child, Harith, to consume it, leading to his death.

The source added that the child experienced severe poisoning, which caused suffocation and loss of consciousness. Despite being taken to a medical point in the camp, he did not survive.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, according to the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish).
