Landmine blasts kill 3 people in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three people, including a mine-clearing volunteer, were killed on Tuesday in two separate landmine explosions in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press that Muhammad Ahmad al-Hussein (34) died while attempting to dismantle a landmine left behind by Iranian-backed militias in the Mahkan desert, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that al-Hussein had been volunteering with a group of local young men to clear landmines for over a month and a half. He had lost both parents two years ago when a landmine exploded as they were collecting truffles in the desert.

Meanwhile, in the town of Sabikhan, Nouri al-Mubasher and Aref al-Hamid were killed when a landmine detonated while they were riding a motorcycle on the outskirts of the Sabikhan desert.
