Child strangled to death in camp for ISIS family members in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A child was killed on Monday in the Roj camp, which houses families of the Islamic State (ISIS) militants, in the countryside of Derik (al-Malikiyah), far northeastern Syria.
According to exclusive photos and information obtained by North Press from a security source in the camp, the child was beaten and strangled to death.
A forensic examination confirmed the cause of death, the source added.
The child’s mother, a Moroccan national, was a former leader in the extremist group’s Hisbah (morality police) unit.
While violent incidents are common in Hawl and Roj camps, this case is the first of its kind in Roj.
Roj camp houses approximately 3,000 ISIS family members, with children making up 65 percent of the population, according to a previous United Nations report.
