Security Forces in Syria’s Idlib Arrest 12 Suspected of Ties to Former Syrian Regime

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Security forces in Idlib conducted a large-scale operation on Monday, detaining 12 individuals suspected of having links to the former Syrian regime, a security source told North Press.

The arrests took place in the town of Jisr al-Shughur, a strategically located city in the western countryside of Idlib, an area controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a former al-Qaeda affiliate, and now controlling the Syrian government after the fall of Assad regime in December 2024. The operation was reportedly part of an ongoing effort to track individuals accused of collaborating with the Assad regime, a charge frequently leveled against those suspected of maintaining contacts with the former Syrian regime.

According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, “The General Security Directorate launched a security campaign targeting individuals involved in coordination with the former Syrian regime.” The official did not provide further details about the charges or the fate of the detainees.
