Israeli Ground Operations Expand in Gaza Amid Intensified Clashes

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli military announced on Thursday the expansion of its ground operations across various areas of the Gaza Strip, amid ongoing air and artillery strikes. Meanwhile, Hamas’ military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for launching rocket barrages targeting Tel Aviv.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that one of the objectives of the latest operation is to “expand the defensive zone between the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip.” The move suggests an effort to consolidate control over strategic areas amid continued fighting.

According to the Israeli military, the latest ground maneuver was preceded by coordinated air and intelligence operations targeting Hamas positions. “Before the operation began, the IDF and Shin Bet attacked Hamas’ military infrastructure and anti-tank missile launch positions in Beit Lahia,” the army said in a statement.

The military added that overnight strikes targeted additional Hamas facilities across Gaza. “The Air Force carried out precision attacks against dozens of militants, military buildings, and weapon depots that posed a threat to Israeli forces and the state of Israel,” the statement continued.

Shortly after Israel’s announcement, the al-Qassam Brigades released a statement claiming responsibility for rocket attacks on Israeli cities. “We targeted the heart of the occupation in Tel Aviv with a barrage of M90 rockets in response to the massacres against civilians,” the group said.

There were no immediate reports on casualties or damage from the rocket fire, but Israeli air raid sirens were triggered across several cities. The escalation follows weeks of intensified hostilities, with both sides sustaining heavy losses.

The ongoing conflict has further deepened Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, with mounting civilian casualties and widespread infrastructure damage. The United Nations and international organizations have repeatedly called for de-escalation, warning of severe shortages of medical supplies, food, and clean water in the besieged enclave.

Despite calls for a ceasefire, both Israel and Hamas appear determined to continue military operations, raising concerns over prolonged violence and its impact on regional stability.
