Security forces seize weapons, drugs in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The General Security forces of Syria’s Caretaker Government conducted on Thursday multiple operations in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, leading to the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and narcotics.
A source from the General Security forces told North Press that security patrols raided the town of Harabesh in Deir ez-Zor and intercepted a vehicle loaded with weapons and ammunition.
The weapons and ammunition belonged to the National Defense Forces (NDF), a militia affiliated with the toppled Assad regime.
The raid resulted in the capture of two individuals who were inside the vehicle.
In a separate operation targeting drug traffickers in the town of Abu Kamal, the security forces seized large quantities of narcotics. However, the suspects managed to evade capture.
In the town of al-Quriyah, east of Deir ez-Zor, the security forces confiscated weapons and ammunition formerly associated with Iranian-backed militias.
The items were reportedly in the possession of arms dealers operating in the area.
