Landmine blast kills 2 people in Deir ez-Zor desert
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two people were killed and a third was injured on Monday when a landmine exploded in the Deir ez-Zor desert, eastern Syria.
A local source said that the landmine, a remnant of war, detonated as a vehicle carrying farmers passed through the outskirts of al-Kishmah town, in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside.
The explosion claimed the lives of Hafez al-Jaata and Ahmed al-Ajoub, while Ali al-Jaata sustained injuries, according to the source.
The source further noted that the desert surrounding the town remains heavily contaminated with landmines and other remnants of war, despite multiple volunteer-led demining efforts. However, these hazardous explosives continue to pose a significant threat to locals.
