Syrian Free Army calls SDF-Government agreement a “National Stand”
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Salem Turki al-Antri, commander of the U.S.-backed Syrian Free Army, described on Tuesday the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government as a “national stand.”
Speaking to North Press, al-Antri stated, “This agreement is a national position taken by patriotic leaders, and future generations will witness the results of their courage.”
He further emphasized that as Syrians, “we are indebted to every national step that brings us closer to the Syria we aspire to.”
The Syrian Free Army, which operates from the U.S.-backed al-Tanf military base in southeastern Syria, is estimated to have around 500 fighters, including defected officers from the Syrian army of the former regime. The faction has occasionally conducted joint military exercises with the U.S.-led international coalition.
On Monday, Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, and Syria’s Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, signed an agreement in People’s Palace in Damascus to recognize Kurdish rights and ensure the integration of key institutions, and sets the framework for joint security cooperation.
