Syrian authorities arrest former NDF leader in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Deir ez-Zor police, operating under the Syrian Ministry of Interior in the caretaker government, successfully apprehended on Tuesday a senior commander of the former regime-affiliated National Defense Forces (NDF).

In February, following the expiration of the deadline for former regime elements to regularize their status, the General Security forces intensified their presence in Deir ez-Zor, conducting raids targeting members and leaders of the NDF.

According to an official statement posted by the Syrian Ministry of Interior on Telegram, Deir ez-Zor’s city police arrested “one of the key operatives of what is known as Firas al-Iraqiya, leader of the National Defense militia in the eastern region.”

The ministry further stated that the arrested individual is “one of the perpetrators involved in acts of torture and killings against local residents” and confirmed that he will be referred to the relevant authorities to face justice.
