Russia prepares documents to repatriate 100 children from Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russian president’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, announced on Wednesday that the necessary documents have been prepared to facilitate the return of 100 children from Syria to Russia.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Lvova-Belova said that they currently have documents ready for 100 children.
She added that over a thousand requests have been submitted by relatives searching for children, although it remains unclear whether all of them are still in Syrian camps.
Lvova-Belova indicated that they know for sure that several hundred Russian children are still in Syrian camps.
She emphasized that the current situation in Syria is preventing her office from proceeding with repatriation efforts.
The Russian diplomat pointed out that once the situation stabilizes and they receive a presidential directive to continue this work, they will resume it immediately.
In November 2024, Russia repatriated a group of 14 boys and 12 girls, aged five to 12, from northeastern Syria.
