QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Kurdish National Council (KNC) on Monday criticized the upcoming Syrian National Dialogue Conference, set to take place on February 24-25 in Damascus, for sidelining political and ethnic groups in the country.

In a statement, the KNC expressed concerns over the conference’s hasty organization, announced just one day before its commencement, and the exclusion of key political and ethnic components, including the Kurdish National Council, from the preparation process.

“The selective and individual invitation process, devoid of clear criteria ensuring balanced representation of Syria’s diverse political and ethnic forces, including the Kurdish political movement, raises fundamental questions about the conference’s credibility and its ability to address the issues left behind by the previous regime,” the statement read.

The council also criticized the limited preparation time and the lack of consideration for the logistical circumstances of participants from inside and outside Syria, arguing that this diminishes the conference’s chances of achieving its intended goals of shaping Syria’s future.

Despite its reservations, the KNC reaffirmed its support for any political process aimed at laying the foundations for rebuilding Syria as a nation free from tyranny and exclusion.

The statement emphasized the urgent need for effective and immediate measures to address the hardships faced by Syrians, advocating for a comprehensive and serious political path that ends their suffering and fulfills their legitimate aspirations for freedom, dignity, and justice.
