EU to suspend sanctions on Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – European Union diplomats revealed on Friday that the bloc intends to suspend its sanctions on Syria starting Monday on Feb. 24.

According to diplomatic sources, foreign ministers from the 27 EU member states will formally approve the decision during their meeting in Brussels. This follows a preliminary agreement reached in January.

On Feb. 19, Reuters reported that the EU had been reviewing a draft declaration outlining the suspension of sanctions, which target key sectors such as banking, energy, and transportation.

The European Union aims to support Syria’s reconstruction efforts and establish new diplomatic ties with the country’s administration, which has been advocating for the lifting of Western sanctions.
