Germany works on allowing Syrian refugees short visits to Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The German Ministry of the Interior announced on Tuesday that it is still working on a solution to allow Syrians to make short visits to their homeland without jeopardizing their protected status, enabling them to assess conditions for a potential voluntary return.

Lamya Kaddor, spokesperson for internal political affairs within the parliamentary group of the Green party, told the German news agency dpa that many Syrian refugees have reached out to her, asking when the regulations for these trips will be finalized.

Meanwhile, last Tuesday, the French Ministry of the Interior stated that Syrian refugees in France may be granted exceptional permits for temporary visits to Syria, provided the trip serves an extraordinary purpose.

Kaddor stressed the need for practical solutions to be implemented swiftly to facilitate return back to Syria.

However, Clara Bünger, Left party MP, criticized the federal government for failing to take concrete steps, despite four weeks having passed since the announcement of exploratory trips.

The government is once again stalling on a feasible initiative, Bünger remarked.
