DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) emphasized the significance of their ongoing dialogue with Damascus during a high-level meeting with the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on Tuesday.
The meeting, held on Monday, focused on recent political developments, efforts to advance negotiations with the transitional government, and the need for inclusive participation in shaping Syria’s future.
Commitment to National Dialogue
During the meeting, the SDF reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue as the primary means of resolving political disputes. A statement released on the SDF’s official website highlighted the importance of constructive discussions with the new leadership in Damascus, led by Ahmed al-Shar’a.
SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi congratulated al-Shar’a on his recent appointment as head of the transitional government and revealed ongoing efforts to reach agreements that serve Syria’s national interests.
The statement also underscored the need for broad participation from all components of Syrian society, stating that a series of local meetings will be held across northeast Syria. These gatherings aim to engage representatives from all social and political groups to ensure inclusive political participation.
Resolving Key Disputes
The meeting participants stressed the importance of addressing unresolved issues between the SDF and the transitional government. While progress has been made, certain disagreements remain, requiring further discussions to establish a viable framework for cooperation.
According to the statement, the SDF and its political allies are determined to find practical mechanisms to implement agreements while addressing outstanding concerns through dialogue.
One of the main points discussed was the necessity of securing a long-term ceasefire to facilitate political progress. The SDF called on Syria’s new administration to take responsibility in ensuring a stable and peaceful transition.
A Path Toward Stability?
The SDF has maintained that any long-term solution for Syria must be based on decentralization and inclusive governance. However, negotiations with Damascus remain complex, with disputes over governance structures, military control, and the management of resources still unresolved.
While the SDF, SDC, and AANES continue to advocate for dialogue, the success of these talks will ultimately depend on the willingness of all parties to compromise and engage in a Syrian-led political process.
As discussions progress, observers will closely watch whether these talks lead to a sustainable agreement or if external and internal pressures hinder the path toward a political resolution.
