Reliance on imports drives fuel costs – Syrian official

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Ministry of Oil relies heavily on fuel imports to meet the majority of local demand, Ahmad al-Suleiman, ministry’s Director of Public Relations and Media in the Syrian caretaker government, said on Saturday.

In an exclusive statement to North Press, al-Suleiman explained that fuel prices are determined by several factors, including production and transportation costs, global oil prices, and local economic conditions, as the region depends primarily on imports to cover its fuel needs.

He added that the ministry works in coordination with “local authorities” to ensure a fair distribution of fuel across all areas.

“Our distribution mechanism is based on local demand,” al-Suleiman said, emphasizing that the ministry is striving to improve the system to ensure transparency and enable citizens to access fuel more easily.
