HASAKAH, SYRIA (North Press) – The Kurdish-led Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced on Tuesday the death of a member of a terrorist cell following an attack on one of its security checkpoints in the southern countryside of Hasakah.

In a statement published on its official website, Asayish detailed the events of the attack, which occurred early Monday morning, January 20, 2025. A five-member terrorist cell targeted the checkpoint along the road connecting Hasakah and Shaddadi, opening fire in an attempt to breach the security post.

Attack and Response

According to the statement, Asayish forces repelled the attack, wounding one of the assailants, identified as Raed Fawaz Al-Ali. He was captured at the scene and transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The statement noted, “The wounded attacker succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the hospital.”

The remaining members of the cell reportedly fled the scene. A search operation is underway to locate and apprehend them.

Escalation in Security Threats

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in northeastern Syria, where sleeper cells linked to extremist groups continue to target security and infrastructure. The Asayish has intensified its efforts to maintain stability and prevent such incidents from escalating further.

Local authorities have called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to assist in maintaining security in the region.

A Region on Alert

The Hasakah-Shaddadi road is a critical connection point in the region, making it a frequent target for armed groups aiming to disrupt local stability. Asayish forces have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the area against future threats.
