Israeli army detonates landmine field in Syria’s Quneitra
QUNEITRA, Syria (North Press) – Israeli army personnel detonated on Monday a landmine field previously planted along the border in the countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria.
According to a local source speaking to North Press, the explosions occurred in the village of Ain Ziwan, near the border between the Golan Heights and Quneitra.
The source noted that the reason for detonating the mines, rather than dismantling them, remains unclear.
However, the resulting explosions were reportedly intense, with the sound reverberating across the entire Quneitra region.
The detonation follows a deadly Israeli airstrike on Jan. 15, which targeted a village in the countryside of Quneitra.
The attack coincided with the passage of a military operations management convoy on an official mission, leaving one person dead and three others injured.
The source speculated that the purpose of the minefield detonation might have been to instill fear among residents and convey a warning about the presence of numerous mines along the border, emphasizing the dangers of approaching the area.
