Jordanian aircraft carry out airstrikes in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian warplanes carried out early Tuesday airstrikes targeting two houses in Suwayda Government, southern Syria.

One of the targeted houses belonged to an individual accused of drug trafficking and smuggling.

According to media sources, the strikes, believed to have been conducted by Jordanian aircraft, hit the village of Shi’ab in Suwayda desert. The first airstrike targeted the center of the village, while the second struck an area to the south.

The sources further stated that one of the targeted houses belonged to Jihad al-Saeed, a member of a local tribe who is reportedly involved in arms and drug trafficking operations between Syria and Jordan.

The airstrikes follow a recent escalation along the border. Two days earlier, violent clashes broke out between Jordanian border guards and armed smugglers attempting to infiltrate Jordanian territory through the eastern military zone. The confrontation resulted in the death of one smuggler and the injury of a Jordanian border guard, according to the Jordanian news agency Petra.
