Syrian FM Announces European Tour to Strengthen Diplomatic Ties

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani announced plans on Friday to lead a high-level delegation on an upcoming European tour. The initiative aims to enhance international cooperation and rebuild Syria’s diplomatic relationships following years of isolation.

During a joint press conference with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, held in Damascus, al-Shaibani emphasized Syria’s commitment to principles of freedom, equality, and the rule of law.

“We are dedicated to upholding values that guarantee freedom for all Syrians, regardless of sect, ethnicity, or religion, under the rule of law,” al-Shaibani stated, adding that these rights are central to Syria’s unity and stability, which, in turn, positively impacts the region.

National Dialogue and Political Transition

Al-Shaibani revealed plans for a first-of-its-kind national conference, which aims to unite all Syrians and lay the groundwork for a comprehensive political transition.

“This conference will ensure an inclusive, smooth transfer of power and hold accountable those responsible for crimes against the Syrian people,” he said.

The foreign minister also stressed the importance of turning the page on the past regime, ending practices such as the propagation of narcotics and chaos in the region. “We aim to create a new chapter where Syria becomes a model of stability, prosperity, and peace,” he added.

Italian Foreign Minister’s Visit

The announcement coincided with the visit of Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who is in Syria to discuss peaceful political transition and the establishment of an inclusive process.

In a statement on social media platform X, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the discussions in Damascus also focused on reconstruction efforts and achieving lasting stability in Syria.

Rebuilding Diplomatic Bridges

Al-Shaibani’s European tour marks a significant step in Syria’s efforts to reintegrate into the global diplomatic community. Observers note that the initiative comes amid renewed international interest in fostering peace and stability in the war-torn country.

The tour is expected to focus on establishing partnerships that support Syria’s reconstruction and ensuring a smooth transition toward a more inclusive and accountable governance model.

The move signals a shift in Syria’s foreign policy, with a greater emphasis on fostering regional and international cooperation as the nation seeks to rebuild and stabilize after years of conflict and economic challenges.
