Syria’s security forces launch sweeping operation in Homs

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Several neighborhoods in the city of Homs, central Syria, witnessed on Thursday a sweeping operation led by the Ministry of Interior in the caretaker government, in coordination with the Military Operations Command.

Syria’s state-run news agency SANA quoted a security official in Damascus, who stated, “The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Military Operations Command, has launched a large-scale sweep operation in Homs neighborhoods to apprehend war criminals and individuals involved in crimes who have refused to surrender their weapons or engage with settlement centers.”

The official added that the operation primarily targets war criminals, individuals evading justice, and concealed caches of weapons and ammunition.

Residents were advised to remain indoors and cooperate fully with authorities until the operation is concluded.

On Dec. 31, 2024, the Military Operations Command announced a curfew in Talbiseh, a town in the Homs countryside, as part of a campaign to apprehend wanted individuals.
