DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two civilians were killed on Monday by a landmine explosion in the countryside of Homs in central Syria.
According to a local source, the landmine—believed to be a remnant of war left by the toppled al-Assad regime’s forces—detonated near a motorcycle on the outskirts of the al-Qaryatayn desert area in eastern Homs, close to a former military site.
The explosion claimed the lives of Hussam Muhammad al-Arish, 38, and his cousin Ahmed Saleh Al-Arish, 35, the source told North Press.
Activists from the town have issued warnings, urging residents to stay away from former regime sites and positions of Iranian-backed militias scattered throughout the desert region to avoid similar tragedies.
