Residents in Syria’s Qamishli show support for Syrian displaced people

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the city of Qamishli in northeast Syria witnessed a solidarity protest in support of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in dire conditions in camps.

The protest aimed to advocate for the rights of refugees and IDPs, calling for their return to their original regions and denouncing demographic changes imposed by various actors in the Syrian conflict.

Nasser Nasser, one of the participants, emphasized the importance of uniting efforts across Syria. “We, as Syrian organizations and movements from diverse affiliations and regions, organized this protest to express solidarity with our people against demographic changes and forced displacement carried out by several conflict parties, particularly factions allied with Turkey,” he said.

Demands of the Protest

Nasser highlighted the need for collective efforts to restore displaced Syrians to their homes. “We demanded the return of all Syrian refugees and IDPs to their regions, spanning from the south to the north of the country,” he added.

The protest also called for an end to sectarian divisions being fueled to undermine security and stability. Nasser stressed, “Several parties are instigating sectarianism to destabilize the gains achieved by Syrians.”

Nationwide Coordination

He revealed that similar protests are planned in Damascus, Suwayda, Salamiyah, and other regions across Syria to amplify the voices of refugees and ensure their rights are recognized. “The coordination among Syrians inside the country aims to unify efforts against all forms of occupation and foreign intervention that harm Syrians collectively,” he said.

The solidarity protests reflect a growing movement to address the long-standing plight of displaced Syrians and their right to return to their homeland.
