Germany launches humanitarian projects with €60 million funding in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Germany announced on Monday the launch of several humanitarian projects in Syria, with a total funding commitment of €60 million, following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
German Development Minister Svenja Schulze described the humanitarian situation in Syria as catastrophic in an interview with the RND media group.
After nearly 14 years of war, vast regions of Syria lie in ruins, with 90 percent of the population living in poverty and dependent on international assistance, Schulze said.
She emphasized that these relief projects will be implemented exclusively through United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations to ensure transparency and effectiveness.
As part of the initiative, €25 million will be directed to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to focus on rehabilitating schools and providing psychological support to children who have endured severe trauma.
An additional €19 million will be allocated to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for initiatives such as organizing short-term job opportunities for internally displaced persons, including projects for rubble and debris removal, Schulze noted.
