Russia Maintains Military Bases in Post-Assad Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Despite the fall of the Assad regime earlier this month, Russia continues to maintain its military presence in Qamishli, northeastern Syria.
After Bashar al-Assad was ousted on December 8, the new leadership assumed control over Damascus and the broader country.
Two significant Russian military bases remain operational in Qamishli, one at Qamishli International Airport and the other near Zouri roundabout south of the city. These bases house numerous military vehicles, dozens of Russian soldiers, and a plane bearing the Russian flag, reportedly used to transport military equipment.
While Iran’s presence in Syria diminished with the fall of the Assad regime, Russia has maintained its foothold, bolstering its strategic interests in the region.
