U.S. delegation meets AANES officials in Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – A U.S. delegation visited on Tuesday the office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the city of Kobani, northern Syria.
According to information obtained by North Press, the delegation is currently holding meetings with AANES officials in Kobani.
So far, neither the AANES nor the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have issued any official statements regarding the visit and the duration of the visit remains unclear.
The visit also coincides with significant developments on the ground, as the SDF recently announced a counteroffensive against Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), in the countryside of Manbij in northern Syria.
Last week, U.S. armored vehicles entered Kobani to monitor the ceasefire between Turkey and the SDF, a truce brokered by the United States which ended on Dec. 22.
In a previous statement to North Press, General Brooks, the commander of the U.S.-led Global Coalition in the Middle East, affirmed that areas on the eastern Euphrates bank in Syria are under international protection and agreements. He emphasized that efforts would be made to prevent destabilization in the area.
