U.S. mistrusts Turkish-backed factions, supports SDF – Turkish analyst
Qamishli, Syria (North Press) – A Turkish political analyst stated on Monday that the United States lacks trust in Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), in Syria and continues to support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).
Jawad Gok, a Turkish political analyst, told North Press that Washington’s continued support for the SDF stems from its mistrust of SNA factions backed by Turkey.
He emphasized that the SDF, which has consistently proven effective in counterterrorism efforts, remains “the most reliable force for the United States.”
On Sunday, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, highlighted the critical role of the SDF as key partners in the fight against ISIS.
On Dec. 19, the U.S. Senate approved a $147 million allocation in the 2025 defense budget to support the SDF.
