First Theater Performance in Damascus After Assad’s Fall

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Al-Khayyam Theater in Damascus witnessed its first theatrical performance on Saturday following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The play, titled “The Refugees” and performed by the Molas brothers, attracted dozens of attendees interested in cultural affairs.

One attendee told North Press, “Previously, no one would attend plays because they were pointless,” referring to the decline of the theatrical scene under the former regime.

The performance revolved around two brothers who fled to France as refugees. They struggled to integrate into French society and cope with the hardships of their new lives. Eventually, they considered suicide but were unable to go through with it. One brother remarked, “If only we were in Syria.”

During the play, one of the brothers addressed a message to the ousted president Bashar al-Assad and his brother Maher, saying, “You are out, and we are here.”
