Turkish Drone Airstrike Destroys 300 Tons of Wheat in Kobane Region

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a Turkish drone airstrike caused the destruction of 300 tons of wheat stored in silos located in Sirreen, approximately 35 kilometers south of Kobane, Syria.

According to Gulistan Sheik Ahmad, co-chair of the agricultural development company, the airstrike ignited two massive stacks of wheat bags, each weighing 150 tons. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Over 30 tons of wheat had been recently received from local farmers and stored in an open area, as the region’s wheat silos were destroyed during the war against ISIS in 2015. These stacks were located on a six-hectare plot.

Firefighting teams were able to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other wheat stacks. The wheat was being used to supply local bakeries, which are crucial for the area’s food supply.

The attack is part of a broader Turkish military escalation, including assaults by affiliated armed factions, raising concerns about the worsening humanitarian situation in the region, particularly after the complete cut of water and electricity supplies to Kobane and its countryside.
