SDC calls for Arab role in resolving crisis, advancing peace in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) urged on Friday Arab countries to take a leading role in supporting a comprehensive resolution to the ongoing Syrian crisis.
SDC’s call was made during an emergency meeting held on Friday by the SDC’s Presidential Council to address recent developments in Syria.
The council underscored the need for a comprehensive ceasefire, describing it as a critical step toward achieving a political solution.
In a statement the SDC alluded to escalating attacks by factions of the Syrian National Army in northeastern Syria.
Highlighting the persistent threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS), the SDC warned that the group is exploiting current instability to reorganize its forces.
The SDC stressed the importance of reinforcing national unity and safeguarding the gains achieved in northeastern Syria.
It called on Arab nations to assume a central role in facilitating a resolution that addresses the broader Syrian crisis.
The council further advocated for securing the rights of all communities of Syrian society in accordance with international legal standards.
It proposed organizing national dialogues as a prelude to a comprehensive conference that would reflect Syrians’ aspirations and pave the way for a peace roadmap.
