Western nations call for de-escalation, political resolution in Syria
The governments of the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom expressed on Sunday deep concern over recent developments in Syria.
In a joint statement addressing the escalating situation in Syria, the four nations expressed deep concern over recent developments and called for immediate de-escalation by all parties involved.
The statement emphasized the critical need to protect civilians and infrastructure, warning that continued hostilities could lead to further displacement and impede humanitarian access in affected areas.
“The current escalation only underscores the urgent need for a Syrian-led political solution to the conflict, in line with UNSCR 2254,” the joint statement declared.
They reaffirmed the countries’ commitment to a sustainable resolution to the Syrian crisis.
On Nov. 27, the HTS and SNA factions launched a large-scale offensive against Syrian government forces in northwestern Syria. The offensive resulted in the factions controlling Aleppo for the first time since the start of the Syrian conflict.
The battles have claimed more than 311 lives, mostly combatants on both sides but also including civilians, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
