ISIS militants attack oil well investor in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) targeted on Saturday an oil well investor in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria after he refused to pay “zakat.”

According to a local source, the ISIS militants planted an IED near the main road in the town of Shahabat, north of Deir ez-Zor. The explosion struck the vehicle of Tamim al-Orwa, an investor in local oil wells.

The source told North Press that the attack caused material damage, with the vehicle sustaining extensive shrapnel damage. No casualties were reported.

The source added that al-Orwa had previously received threats from ISIS demanding payment of “zakat,” an obligatory charity they exploit to fund their operations.
