U.S. emergency extension in Syria “necessary step” – SDC leader

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The extension of the national emergency in Syria by the White House is a necessary step due to the continued threat posed by ISIS and its dangers, said Layla Qaraman, Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) on Sunday.

During an exclusive statement to North Press, Qaraman expressed hope that the American side will continue its efforts to combat ISIS in the region.

“it is natural to extend the state of emergency since the threat of terrorism has not been completely eradicated.”

“We also desire the continued American presence in the region until a political solution to the Syrian crisis is found,” she added. “Although the political solution currently seems unlikely given the developments in the region at both the regional and local levels.”

On Oct. 10, The United States extended the national emergency concerning the situation in Syria for an additional year, citing ongoing threats to U.S. national security and foreign policy.

The U.S. government has highlighted that the situation continues to undermine efforts to defeat ISIS, endanger civilians, and destabilize the region.
