Coalition responds to attack by Iran-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iranian-backed militias targeted late on Tuesday a base of the U.S.-led Global Coalition in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria, prompting an immediate response from the Coalition forces.
A source from the town of al-Ozba in the east of Deir ez-Zor said the rockets landed near the Conoco Oil Field, where U.S. troops are stationed.
The source added that multiple rockets were launched from areas west of the Euphrates River, controlled by the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias.
A military source told North Press that the base’s ground defenses intercepted several projectiles, with debris falling around the site.
Coalition aircraft were quickly deployed following the attack, carrying out airstrikes on a weapons depot and a rocket platform in the village of Ayyash, north of Deir ez-Zor.
However, the casualty count from these strikes has yet to be confirmed.
