AANES official expects 850,000 students to enroll in NE Syria schools

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Monday that they anticipate over 850,000 students will enroll for the 2024-2025 school year in Northeastern Syria.

Samira Haj Ali, co-chair of the Education Board of the AANES said that 4,100 schools have been prepared to accommodate students.

She told North Press that approximately 41,000 teachers and administrative staff are prepared to receive students, with plans to add 55 more schools following ongoing renovation efforts.

Haj Ali also highlighted that curricula have been revised and updated. Nearly 2.7 million textbooks reflecting these new changes have been printed.

Additionally, Haj Ali noted that the security situation has left 87 schools completely destroyed and unable to function, while another 92 schools have sustained partial damage and are currently undergoing restoration.
