DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The United States (U.S.) imposed on Friday new sanctions on 14 officials of the Syrian government, which include restrictions on their entry visas.
The U.S. Department of State announced that the U.S. placed visa restrictions on 14 Syrian government officials, citing their connection to cases of enforced disappearances.
“Today, the Department of State is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on 14 Syrian regime officials for their involvement in repressing rights in Syria, including involvement in or association with enforced disappearances,” Matthew Miller, U.S. Department of State Spokesperson said.
The Department of State said that these restrictions add to the 21 government officials previously sanctioned by Secretary of State Antony Blinken in March.
“These restrictions come in addition to restrictions on 21 Syrian regime officials and their immediate family members that Secretary Blinken announced under this authority in March 2024 and December 2023,” Miller noted.
He added that more than 96,000 men, women, and children have “disappeared” at the hands of the Syrian government as part of its method of dealing with dissidents.
