Russia urges dialogue between Syrian government, AANES
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Russian diplomat called on Tuesday for the establishment of direct relations between the Syrian government and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
In a statement to Rudaw, an Erbil-based news website, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations emphasized that fostering dialogue is the most viable route to resolving longstanding tensions, both for Syria and the Kurds [AANES].
“We believe that this process is the only path toward a solution, and it is also the best option for the Kurds,” Polyansky said.
He noted the presence of a significant Kurdish diaspora in Russia, which, according to him, plays an important role in regional dynamics.
Polyansky reiterated Russia’s readiness to support and strengthen these relations. “We believe this is an opportunity that should be seized right now,” he stated.
However, Polyansky also underscored that the decision on how to address this issue must be made internally by Syria.
“This is a matter for Syria’s own leadership,” he said, adding that no external forces should interfere or impose their views on the matter.
