Israeli airstrikes on Homs result in 30 Syrian soldier casualties
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Over 30 government soldiers, including a lieutenant, were killed and injured in an Israeli attack on Shayrat Airbase in the countryside of Homs in central Syria days earlier, a military source said on Monday.
The airstrikes, which occurred on Aug. 23, targeted several sites in Homs and Hama. The government has not disclosed the full extent of the casualties or damage, and Israel has not commented on the nature of targets.
Meanwhile, Syria’s state-run news agency SANA reported that seven civilians were injured in the Israeli airstrikes that targeted several locations in central Syria.
According to the source, who is stationed near the targeted site, the airstrikes hit three missile depots at Shayrat Airbase, known as Abu al-Laban depots.
Although Iranian forces were in the vicinity, none were harmed, he added.
The strikes are believed to be linked to missile support being sent by Iranian-backed militias to the Lebanese Hezbollah in Lebanon, given Homs’ proximity to the Lebanese border, the source noted.
The attack also destroyed an air intelligence outpost in a nearby village.
