Gunmen kill 2 Iranian-backed militants in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen killed on Tuesday night two Iranian-backed militants in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.

A military source said that unknown gunmen targeted a military vehicle of the Iranian-backed Liwa Hashemiyoun militia with a guided missile as it was leaving one of their posts in the village of Kabajib to the west of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that the attack resulted in the killing of two militants of Liwa Hashemiyoun, including a leader, and the injury of six others.

All of the militants are in critical condition, and they were taken to Deir ez-Zor military hospital for treatment, according to the source.

The Liwa Hashemiyoun militia is linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and follow orders of Abu Issa al-Mashhadani and are led by Haj Ragheb al-Mashhadani.

The Syrian Desert covers almost half of Syria, spanning across the governorates of Hama, Homs, Raqqa, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor.

Large areas of the Syrian Desert are controlled by Iranian-backed militias and the government forces and frequently witness intensive operations and attacks, mostly carried out by ISIS sleeper cells.
